Sand Quarry Dredge Operator

About the Role

La Compagnie Bon Sable Ltée operates a sand quarry adjacent to our development sites in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac. We're looking for an experienced Dredge Operator to run and maintain our suction dredge, extracting and processing sand and aggregate material safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable working independently around heavy equipment and water-based extraction operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the dredge to extract sand and aggregate from the quarry pond, monitoring depth, flow, and output quality throughout each shift

• Perform pre-start inspections and routine maintenance on the dredge, pumps, pipelines, and related equipment

• Reposition and anchor the dredge as extraction zones shift; manage floating pipeline connections

• Monitor and adjust density, pumping rates, and discharge to the processing/settling area

• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues; coordinate repairs with maintenance staff or outside contractors

• Keep accurate logs of production volumes, hours of operation, fuel/energy use, and maintenance activity

• Follow all site safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, water-safety protocols, and personal protective equipment requirements

• Support environmental compliance — sediment control and reporting as required by the quarry's operating permit

Qualifications

• Prior experience operating a dredge, or comparable heavy equipment experience in a quarry, mining, or marine/dredging environment

• Working knowledge of pumps, hydraulics, and basic mechanical troubleshooting

• Comfortable working on the water, with a strong safety focus

• Able to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions typical of Québec

• French and/or English communication skills sufficient for daily site coordination

• Reliable, able to work independently with minimal supervision
